Respondent functions are either dimension or function altering. These can be learned or unlearned. Now, instead of a conditioned stimulus, when we are referring to respondent function altering effects of stimuli to the effect or the conditioning of new conditioners which then will have new behaviour altering effects. Start studying Unit 1: Respondent learning. Learn vocabulary, terms, and more with flashcards, games, and other study tools. 2.

Key Concepts. Several types of learning exist. The most basic form is associative learning, i.e., making a new association between events in the environment [1].There are two forms of associative learning: classical conditioning (made famous by Ivan Pavlov’s experiments with dogs) and operant conditioning. Counterconditioning (also called stimulus substitution) is functional analytic principle that is part of behavior analysis, and involves the conditioning of an unwanted behavior or response to a stimulus into a wanted behavior or response by the association of positive actions with the stimulus. In this way, a new learning process emerged in response to the association of two different stimuli. All the research that has emerged from classical conditioning has helped us understand many aspects of human learning. Thanks to this, we can anticipate phobias and also link emotions to new stimuli.

Describe how Pavlov’s early work in classical conditioning influenced the understanding of learning. He conducted a series of experiments in which, over a number of trials, dogs were exposed to a sound immediately before receiving food.
Explain what internal validity is and why experiments are considered to be high in internal validity.

Thorndike studied learning in animals (usually cats). He devised a classic experiment in which he used a puzzle box (see fig. 1) to empirically test the laws of learning. Fig 1: Simplified graph of the result of the puzzle box experiment. He placed a cat in the puzzle box, which was encourage to escape to reach a scrap of fish placed outside.

To answer the question, we run a set of experiments where respondents are asked to complete as many as 30 conjoint tasks. Experiments conducted through Amazon’s Mechanical Turk and Survey Sampling International demonstrate the surprising robustness of conjoint designs, as there are detectable but quite limited increases in survey satisficing as the number of tasks increases. The experiment aimed to introduce students to an alternative method of learning to the traditional one previously used by them in their course, to encourage teamwork and to encourage the use of alternative methods of obtaining information.
